The Latest from The BookShelf Writers

How do you like our mugs? My writing group (the BookShelf Writers) got these at our annual writing retreat. Each year, we book a vacation rental in a lovely spot in California, and spend a week together writing. This one was in Solvang in a gracious, sprawling hilltop home where we could all spread out and find writing desks with long, inspiring vistas across the Santa Ynez Valley. We’d come back together for dinner, a glass of wine, and to share our daily writings. We all agree that there’s no greater boost to our personal productivity, or our communal bond, than these retreats each year.

The four of us continue to enjoy writing for our column in the Estero Bay News, the robust and growing local paper out here on the coast.  My latest four articles stretched my creativity in all directions, from the very serious to the light-hearted.

In the August 26, 2021 issue, I wrote Beware The Thorny-Headed Worm about our golden retriever’s near-death experience from eating sand crabs on the beach, resulting in an infection of thorny-headed worms.

As Halloween approached in October, I shared In The Chill of Hang Glider Hill, the secret story behind a mysterious rock pile on our local hill.

The December publication featured my story about our beloved little dog park Cayucos Dog Park-From Humble Beginnings and Humble Still.

My latest article in February 2022 featured a personal essay about my gratitude for the Ticonderoga pencil and IBM’s self-correcting typewriter. Does that pique your curiosity? I hope you enjoy Forgiveness and Second Chances.

I’m excited about my upcoming article about permaculture which will be published in April. It includes some fun suggestions for how to get onboard with this do-the-right-thing movement toward a healthier Earth and a healthier you!
